Default Need a second battery for a trip, which one to get? - 07-16-2009, 02:49 PM

I am going to be traveling in the next 30 days and wanted to get a second battery. I am looking on ebay and they all seem to be 9 cell batteries out there for about $50. Dell sells the 3 cell for $99. I would like a 9 cell, but do not want to deal with the flashing lights and charging issues I have read about. I was wondering if this is still an issue or if it had been resolved.

I would like to spend the least money possible, but also have the least issues.

Thanks in advance!!!

If you want to avoid flashing LEDs and charging issues, buy the Dell 4-cell battery. I note that the price has gone up since the Mini 9 was discontinued - sigh.

Default external battery - 07-17-2009, 09:00 PM

I'm using the Tekkeon 3450 setting it to 19V with a Dell Mini 9 running Ubuntu 9.04. It recharges the internal battery. I tested it before my trip and, running a bunch of stuff including an endless loop of h.264 video, wifi, bluetooth, and more, got about 7 hours 45 minutes. On the actual flight I put the battery in the pocket of the seat in front of me, plugging it into the Mini 9 when convenient.
