I had XP SP3 working fine on my mini (1GB RAM, 8GB SSD
) for a few months.
Then two weeks ago, it refused to boot - XP seems to start with the normal loading screen, the BSODs with 'UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME'.
Thing is, I've no files I need so I'm happy to re-install. I've tried XP (Home and Pro - all the copies I can find from my MSDN account!) and it hangs each time during setup at 'examining startup environment' so I can't re-install or even get to the recovery console.
I've tried a Hiren's Boot CD, Active@ Live-CD, a Bart-PE based boot CD - they all lock up when accessing the SSD
, and cannot re-partition, re-format. I did manage to 'recover' any files, so it seems a lot of data is still there.
Ubuntu or OSX won't install either! (OSX cannot partition - input/output error).
The final kicker is that the Dell-supplied diagnostic CD works and all the tests for the SSD
return fine. This means I'm having a hard time convincing Dell it's a hardware issue...though I really, really think it is.
Anyone else had anything similar or have any suggestions?
