Default Keyboard Help - 05-29-2009, 09:00 PM

For some odd reason my keyboard is acting all weird and sometimes will not work I took out some keys (they wont go back in) and I need to know if dell will send me a free keyboard or will I need to buy one?
How do I replace it?

The Dell Service Manual, available from the support site, shows how to remove and replace the keyboard. It isn't difficult. Dell may send you a new one, but they're only about $20 shipped to replace.

Since you want a new keyboard anyway, you may want to consider getting the US intl keyboard instead. This layout puts the keys back in a more normal position that the standard Dell 9 keyboard. A pinned thread is on the Dell 9 upgrade forum (the one above this one.)

For issues where keys fell off, Dell will send you a new keyboard. Intentional damage (e.g. taking them off) isn't covered by the warranty though. :P

I do prefer the US-International Keyboard. Personally on my own equipment I see parts failures as excuses to upgrade. :P
