I held out for the 64GB SSD
from MyDigitalDiscount which arrived on Friday.
I've seen similar behaviour under certain circumstances. While the stock 16GB SSD
from Dell can be installed and uninstalled without any data hiccups, the 64GB model seems to be so sensitive that it suffers data corruption if it is removed and re-installed in the system, no matter how carefully. On one occasion I found that I could see that my volume name (originally 'SSD
') had changed to 'CCD' (missing one set bit in ASCII). The volume was, of course, unmountable and had to be reconfigured from scratch. Since then I've left it in place and it has worked perfectly.
I had reverted to the original SSD
to pull some files that I'd forgotten to backup and to do a little speed testing. The 64GB SSD
is also extremely slow despite MyDigitalDiscount's claim (since removed from their site) that the 64GB version would be 'as fast as or faster than the stock SSD
in your Dell Mini 9'. It's tolerable when journaling is disabled, but only just.
