I have not experienced any problems with 9.04, but mine was a clean install. My guess is that you have a different libraries or drivers. It might be a matter of uninstalling AND installing some things. A clean install would be easiest though. The fn-2 wireless shortcut might have to be setup in keyboard shortcuts, It doesn't seem to work on my 9.04 install either. I never tried it in 8.04.

I can confirm this same problem with wireless not working in jaunty with the Dell Mini 12. I turned off bluetooth and wireless with the aircraft manager before installing Jaunty. To fix the problem I was able to re-enable both wireless and bluetooth after installing the aircraft-manager program as linked to and detailed in these articles: for jaunty & for hardy/intrepid.

Uh, seems like someone really messed up things with the network-manager update. The keyboard config was all messed as well. It is no news that people writing in languages other than English should waste ages re-configuring a keyboard. For what it's worth, disabling the Broadcom manager did not work for me either, neither does the applet seems to have a proper configuration module, when called for, from "Propiedades de conexión" (sorry, I am Mexican, I work in Spanish), an error pops to inform that "el interfaz no existe". Now, this seems to be related with this really naughty thing about computers, which is the belief among technicians that users are interested in wasting time finding out about their usually pointless improvements. Should someone able to do so happened to read this post, please be so kind as to revert Ubuntu-hardy-mini's mega-update, at least in what regards to the wifi connection and the keyboard. Must of us are users with a low budgedt--so we bought a Netbook--and mainly interested in writing and reading--not setting up.

Now, a guy under the name of "James Dean" just solved it (a very simple thing, as usual).

I got my Dell Mini about two days ago. I have Ubuntu 8.x on the machine. First thing I did was setup my wireless (WPA - TKIP) network. Worked great, then got a bunch of requests for updates. Performed all the updates and then was no longer able to connect to my wireless network. It says my password or encryption keys are wrong leading to a authentication problem. I know it's my SSID, I know it's the proper password, and it connected fine until the updates.

I just installed Netbook Remix 9.x from Ubunut hoping it was a crappy NetworkManager update, but I am still not able to connect to the wireless network. What the heck happened? I'm almost tempted to send this thing back to Dell as being defective. That or say to heck with Ubuntu and go RC Windows 7. I've heard good things on this site about it.

Anyway, someone who finds out how to get wireless to work on Ubuntu using WPA + TKIP post here ASAP.

Posted kind of upset. I did get my wireless working. I just (within the past 2 hours) installed Netbook Remix 9. I then performed an update, and of course updated files. I then restarted. Still no wireless. So i logged into my wireless router, changed it from disable to enable SSID broadcast. I then tried to log into my wireless network on my netbook. Sure enough this time it flipping accepted my password and connected just fine. I just disabled SSID broadcast and restarted the PC. It seems to fail again. Even though I used the option to connect to hidden networks it won't, but it will connect to a none hidden network. This is using WPA - TKIP on wireless G network. No fancy settings other than not broadcasting SSID. So yah, still broken on Netbook Remix 9 for me.
