Default 4GB SSD failed when installing OS - 03-30-2009, 09:11 PM

I'm just coming to learn about SSD failures and that they have a finite lifetime. But my Mini is only a week old and I've hardly used it! I got adventurous and tried installing Ubuntu 9.04 up until the point where there was some sort of IO error so I had to quit and restart. After the SSD wouldn't work and Dell said they'd send me another one.

Does that mean that anything that's IO intensive (such as an install) is going to potentially ruin the SSD?

No, it means that there was a fault in your first SSD, not that installing an OS will always trash an SSD.
