Got the MINI back in 2008 Oct. Everything was OK until last month. First blue screen, then checkdsk auto kicked in and failed all the time during the run. (bad SSD
). Check the web and found similar issue with STOP UNKNOWN HARD ERROR back in November 2008. Tried to get Dell to replace the SSD
. They got me to do the restore XP (failed with blue screen);
run diagnostics on memory and then hard drive. Memory was fine after 30 minutes and SSD
kept on failing on READ ERROR for quite a few blocks. They said to send a SSD
with windows installed. NOT. Tried to restore XP, failed and worse than my bad SSD
. Cannot run dianostics at all. Called Dell again and they finally sent one with XP image. Windows initial set up worked fine. Since they taught me how to run diagnostics utility during bootup (instead of just checkdsk that I ran over 10 times when I first got the mini 5 months ago), I thought I might as well run it to check the drive out. Guess what, it DID NOT start the diagnostics with error that it encounter UNSUPPORTED DELL PC. So either the diagnostic utility is TOO OLD that it does not recognize DELL MINI 910, or something else is not right. Called Dell and asked how they could tell the utility to recognize my PC as SUPPORTED. No luck with them and they want to ship me a box to return it to check the error. So much for the support I am getting. I guess this BLEEDING EDGE SSD
is not warranted. My MSI WIND hard drive is still working fine with 120G instead of 16G.
