Thanks so much for posting this! When my new Mini stopped charging I contacted Dell tech support, who sent me a new battery and power supply. Neither worked. After finding this post and disabling airplane mode (I'd just been on a trip and enabled airplane mode on a flight), everything worked fine

I wouldn't call this a bug, but it should be in the user documentation and in the tech support knowledge base. I plan to call Dell back on this one and (hopefully) improve this.

Battery went out as well on A04 short-long-short beep system... Dell customer service was top notch as always and will send a replacement.
The Dell Mini was left 3-4 days without any juice in its battery and probably that's what caused it. What's revolting is the fact that other lithium batteries (laptops, cellphones or pda's) were left until reaching 0% and charged everytime without a glitch. Is there something wrong with these Dell batteries or a warning should be posted 'don't let your Dell Mini's battery reach 0%'..?

OK,

Ironically, I now experience the battery failing to charge behavior. Ironic because I've run it on previous UNR versions without issue, and have always been able to restore battery charging by disabling airplane mode.
I'm running Karmic UNR, installed the latest Aircraft-manager 12.1 deb from the PPA
https://launchpad.net/~opensource-su..._filter=karmic

Flipped it on, flipped it off, now the battery refuses to charge, and has drained to 0%, so I'm stuck on AC power now. I've tried the following:
http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/dell...html#post12070
http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/dell...html#post15644

Also, I have repeatedly disabling Airplane mode, even booting into a live Jaunty environment, installing aircraft-manager into Jaunty & disabling it, suspecting it having been a compatibility issue with Karmic.

My warranty has just expired, so sending off for a new battery is not a trivial matter. Also, this literally just happened after adding aircraft-manager to Karmic, so I'm pretty sure its not a bad battery.

Help? Thanks.

if you have not used your mini in a while the battery may be to depleated to start the charging process. if your unit works fine on AC but won't charge at all and stays at 0% then check the battery by single clicking. if the battery status is less than 0.5 wh then the battery is too depleated to start charging.
turn off the unit and unconnect the cord from the unit. quickly reconnect the cord to the unit for a second until the power light comes on and then disconnect again. do this several times (at least ten) then turn the unit back on and recheck the battery status. once you get over 0.7wh the battery will have enough juice to start charging again.

Joined just to make this post: Thank you!
I got the "battery won't charge" disease and after an hour of 'dell hell' trying to get support, decided to do some research (which I should have done FIRST).
Sure enough, it was Aircraft Mode - I had used it to disable BlueTooth thinking 'waste of battery'.
Thanks to the forum and specifically, dougma, the battery now charges.

Similar problem to those mentioned here, but mine is running XP. Prior to a few months ago I had the Ubuntu loaded on it. My corp laptop bit the dust and I rebuilt the Mini with XP SP3 so I could use it for corp email and such until I got a replacement. The dreaded battery issues started soon after. Until than my Mini had spent most of it's life on the shelf. I was traveling a lot and did not feel like dragging a corp laptop and the Mini along.

I went so far as to send it back to Dell. They supposedly tested it and say it is fine, but refuse to give me a new battery. They state the battery is more than a year old, which is true, but I argue it has not been USED for a year. No hope now I guess except to buy another battery.
