I just got my mini Friday night and am running into the same issue as eXplicit

"Just got mine. Won't run off the battery at all. Battery light flashes constantly. Battery meter says idle"

I'm running Windows XP.

Things I have tried

Reseating battery (of course)
Tried download the BIOS updates from Dell, but the BIOS won't flash, says that the BIOS is unflashable, I read on another website that the BIOS can't be flashed if the battery is below 10%
So I am waiting for a new battery from Dell, hopefully this will fix the issue.

on a side note: Upgraded to 2gb ram without any issues

Just got my mini today and having the same issue. My battery light will not come on at all though. Just says 'charging' but stays at 0% once in Windows. It won't show any signs of life with the A/C adapter. I let a Dell tech take control and attempt a 'fix'. We could not get the BIOS to flash. Always ends in an error code -144 whatever that is. So I'm stuck with BIOS A00 for now and Dell is sending me a new A/C adapter although there's no way that's the problem.

I had a Dell tech take control of my comp too and they were unable to flash as well. They said once I get a new battery I should be ok. If not the whole thing is going back. Hopefully that won't be the case b/c I love the size and functionality of the mini, but its useless if it doesn't hold a charge.

HI ALL!!!
Just got a new Dell Mini for Christmas and it's really amazing!! the computer works fine... except for the battery i cant't believe it!! now i checked airplane mode it is not enabled, the battery is found by the computer it just refuses to charge!! my front led is on (which should indicate charging..) but noething to do the battery will always remain 0%
anyone have some advise?? thanks

My mom just received hers the Dec 23rd from the Outlet (refurbished) and booted it up. Low and behold it died. We plugged it in and restarted it. It runs fine as long as the AC is plugged in. I got on the phone with Dell and they tried to get me to update the BIOS from A00 to A03. No go. It won’t flash. We now have to send it back. That won’t happen till the 7th or so since we are traveling. Since I gave my wife a MINI 9 for Christmas, I am going to try and switch batteries tonight as well as AC adapters to see what happens.

I have the same problem with my mini Windows XP

the battery is not charging .....the orange battery light is blinking

I did every thing mentioned here but no luck...

With battery installed and Mini powered off, remove the power adapter.

While holding down Fn+B reconnect the power adapter, the front panel lights should flicker momentarily.

Release Fn+B then press the Mini's power button. The Mini should beep once then do nothing.

Disconnect the power adapter, disconnect and reconnect the battery then reconnect the power adapter.

Turn the Mini back on and after booting into the OS confirm that the battery is now charging.

Please report back if you are able to correct your non-charging issue!

mine beeps 3 times then pauses then 3 times more on and on. is that bad? yes im using A03 on ubuntu and no charging.

woo hoo. Airplane mode fixed my problem. unfortunately my search results started me on the second page of this thread. i totally missed the conversation about airplane mode.
