Lightbulb REAL Resolution Fix - 02-27-2009, 06:23 AM

I have BIOS A04 and my resolution was still changing from 800x600 to 1024x600 at startup. I read that A04 fixes this problem but apparently that was not the case for me. The following registry keys are the ones that set the default resolution for the internal LCD display:

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Hardware Profiles\0001\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\iAlm\Device0\Mon80862500]
"Attach.ToDesktop"=dword:00000001
"DefaultSettings.BitsPerPel"=dword:00000020
"DefaultSettings.XResolution"=dword:00000400
"DefaultSettings.YResolution"=dword:00000258
"DefaultSettings.VRefresh"=dword:0000003c
"DefaultSettings.Flags"=dword:00000000
"DefaultSettings.XPanning"=dword:00000000
"DefaultSettings.YPanning"=dword:00000000
"DefaultSettings.Orientation"=dword:00000000
"DefaultSettings.FixedOutput"=dword:00000000
"Attach.RelativeX"=dword:00000000
"Attach.RelativeY"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Hardware Profiles\0001\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\iAlm\Device0\Mon80862500]
"Attach.ToDesktop"=dword:00000001
"DefaultSettings.BitsPerPel"=dword:00000020
"DefaultSettings.XResolution"=dword:00000400
"DefaultSettings.YResolution"=dword:00000258
"DefaultSettings.VRefresh"=dword:0000003c
"DefaultSettings.Flags"=dword:00000000
"DefaultSettings.XPanning"=dword:00000000
"DefaultSettings.YPanning"=dword:00000000
"DefaultSettings.Orientation"=dword:00000000
"DefaultSettings.FixedOutput"=dword:00000000
"Attach.RelativeX"=dword:00000000
"Attach.RelativeY"=dword:00000000
My computer was using the "ControlSet001" key but I also changed the "ControlSet002" just in case Windows also uses "ControlSet002" for any reason.

You can copy the above info to a text file and change the extension to .reg and then open it. Windows will ask you if you want to import the data into the registry. click ok and reboot. Verify if your computer also has the "Mon80862500" key in the same place or if it is named differently before importing the data. You can also manually go in and change it yourself instead of importing the registry data above.

I also disabled the "igfxtray.exe" and the "igfxpers.exe" files in "msconfig" so they dont waste RAM.

Enjoy the new permanent resolution! :mrgreen:

Excellent, worked for me too since A04 and the ASTray fixes did not.

Thanks very much

I also had the A04 firmware and still had the resolution problem. Tried re-installing the intel drivers a couple of times and removing astray, but it was to no avail until I found this thread. Thanks for the fix! Windows finally boots at the correct resolution

Well I never had the problem until I connected a data projector. Now I do! I'm not getting this fix quite right either. I've copied all the text, and removed the line that says Windows Registry Editor ... I have saved the file as a .reg file using word pad but when I double click on it I'm told the registry can't import it. What could I be doing wrong? Thanks.

I haven't had this problem, but I have created lots of .reg files. You need to include the "Windows Registry Editor" line.

Copy and paste exactly what you see above. I can't confirm that it will fix your resolution problem, but it will update your registry.

Thanks so much for this solution. How did you work it out?. The problem was driving me nuts. I had tried upgrading the Bios and Intel drivers to no avail. Your Reg solution worked.

Many thanks

Haven't been back to this thread in a couple of months. I'm glad it helped many of you.

I forgot how exactly I figured this out, but I remember that I searched for "600" in the registry and found this registry location. The width key was set to 800. Since it didn't change to 1024 when I manually set the resolution, I tried changing the width key to 1024 and rebooted. Windows started up at the correct 1024x600 resolution so then I copied the registry data I posted above.

This Hits the spot!.... after a wasted day trying other things, you have the solution for me. Everything is back to it's normal, start-up self. - thank you very much.
Oh yes guys..... don't forget to back up the registry beforehand, (just in case), but this is a great, great, solution.
