I was helping my son debug a video game on his mini 9, and decided to use the VGA out to see if I could get to part of the menu that was displayed off the screen. I plugged it into an old CRT monitor we use (that still works fine), and immediately smelled smoke, so I unplugged it. The mini 9 was dead. Oddly, the monitor wasn't even plugged in to power yet. I pulled the access cover off the mini 9 and didn't see anything obviously burned, but it sure did stink. I'm sure the magic smoke escaped from something. So, after a few minutes, I put the battery back on and it powered right up. I plugged it in to an LCD monitor and the vga out still works; ran the Dell diagnostic and all seems well. So, other than the fact that it stinks, I can't find anything wrong with it. I'm tempted to pull it apart to see what burned to see if I should call Dell for service. Any thoughts?
