michaelcly,

I tried to send you an IM but I have to have 5 post to do that, But you might want to try the above to see if that works. I really worked for me.

Hours of searching I was able to get the SSD to read right again.

I downloaded and looked at the instructions. It appears to do a firmware thing that might not work with the runcore. I'll try a firmware upgrade from runcore first...if i can find one.

Yeah the update I did was for a 8GB and will not work for 4GB but from what I read should with 8GB and higher.

Hey, keep us posted, I would like to see the outcome. I have lost hair over this issue.

Thanks,

Also if it helps,

I have a TFTPD32 server setup on my main computer on the network to push Ubuntu 11.10

You may/will have to update the DHCP ips to suite your network but everything you need to PXE boot is provided.

Extract the zip to your c:\ assuming you are running windows.
It should create a tftp folder.
You will see a tftpd32.exe app.
Run it.

Once in the app click the settings button at the bottom.
Then click DHCP tab and update the "IP pool starting address" and the default router IP.

Then go back to TFTP tab and make sure the "Bind TFTP to this address" is updated with your computers IP address you are running TFTPD from.

tftp.zip

Hope this helps!

ByteMeNetwork, I only have Macs and the Dell Mini9. I am at home and left the Runcore ssd at work. Tomorrow sometime I'll try to find an ISO file of something I can restore to a USB stick so I can get to a command prompt on the mini. Then I can run the fix.

I do have Windows 7 on my mac running with boot camp--but not familiar enough with it to make something bootable. I have a bootable (to the mini 9) OSX external drive and a 4gb thumb drive with Ubuntu.

I know what you mean about loosing hair over this. My comb has it easier now too.

Did not work for me. It identified my SSD as a Runcore and returned the message that it "could not initialize this disk." But did give me the firmware I have.

Bummer. But thanks for your help...I'm certain this would have worked if i had a STEC ssd. This is going to help a lot of people with STEC drives.

But I'm encouraged that firmware flashing may help. I'm going to seek help from Runcore. The firmware I have is 1571 (or close) there are two upgrades since then. I learned some can go straight to the higher, others have to take it in two steps.

All,
I googled "dos on a stick" and got CNET download link for DOS-On-USB. It's great... and free. It puts a bootable DOS71 on a 128mb usb stick and only used 17mb. Works great on the mini 9. Here's the link: DOS-on-USB - Download.com (use the direct download choice)
