Default ssd dead i think - 12-15-2011, 07:47 PM

ok it shows in my bios the spec make and model of my ssd, but booting the netbook i get operating system not found,
i ran ubuntu via my usb stick and it tries to install ubuntu but just sticks when trying to repartition my hard drive,

when i try and install win7 again i get to the screen where u can format your drive it takes a while and nothing happens and then i get an error code,

you guys reckon my ssd is dead???

could i use this ???

you dont say but if it shows '0mb' in the BIOS its shot, I personally would just buy a new tablet....Dell has stopped selling ALL Mini's....I would go with a tablet

In my bios it says
fixed HDD : STEC PATA 8GB -(PM)
HDD SIZE: 7683MB

so its visible but it seems i cant do nothing with it when i run ubuntu 11.10 from usb i dont see my drive but if i put my sd card in it shows that fine.

well at least it shows the correct size, I am not the one to talk to on SSD's though (personally I hate them), but I know if it shows 0mb its dead but thats about the extent of my knowledge, wait for Steve (Holmes4) to chime in here, he is our resident expert on SSD's......Good Luck

I have read of this symptom but the prognosis is not good. These drives can get into a state where they are not writeable and reading stops working right as well. There is no way to fix it other than replacing the SSD.

ah that sucks, thanks guys, maybe time to sell for parts and get a new toy

$50 for a Runcore 16 GB SSD from MDD doesn't sound bad to me if you want to keep your Mini. I use a Nook Color like a tablet but don't think I will replace my Mini 9 with a tablet when it finally does fail. Most likely I will get another light laptop.

Tell Santa, maybe it is not to late to get it on his/her sleigh
