Since I was reinstalling XP on my 9 (sounds like I'm referencing my pistol LOL) I decided to back to NTFS. First thing of note after using XP on fat32 for some time I really DO notice the lags here and there now but I have not performed any tweaks really yet.
I installed PlayOn again and did quite a bit of testing last night. It was my thought that since I used NTFS I would use junctions (similiar to symbolic links) to offload the read/write of the media files. No matter what I do there is still pauses! I tried created a junction for the media folder as suggested on the PlayOn forum. First I tried using my buffalo usb microSD card half expecting to performance not to be enough...and it wasn't there where still periods of video halting and "loading" on my xbox360. So next I tried using an external usb hard drive (maxtor 320gb)...yet again, video stops and has to "load" periodically. -This had me stumped since I had verified that the media file being downloaded and read from was in fact being offloaded to the external drive ad nothing else was using it.
So next I got crazy and decided to completely offload both the program files folder and the media folder (different locations mind you) and put them on the external hard drive. Still a no go...kinda stumped as to why there is still these pauses in video playback causing the xbox to load. The only thing I can think of is that the overall slow performance of the OS on the SSD
is causing it, I had thought offloading the program and its media file completely would cut out the SSD
but apparently something is not.
I did return everything to normal and found that if I start a show on the xbox and then pause it right away and allow the mini to download and process for a little while (with the show paused on the xbox) that I could then later watch the show streaming from the mini with no video disruption whatsoever. -This is good enough for me at this point, I will like not having to run into my computer room and starting up one of the other computers when we want to watch something.
Would be curious to see how it performs on a runcore SSD
I have PlayOn forced to Max settings
Running wireless with stock broadcom wifi (doesn't like my intel 4965 card...another post)
I have done extensive monitoring of CPU, memory, and wifi bandwidth load...none of these are ever maxed out while streaming video which leads me to assume the SSD
is the pitfall of the above issues.
