Do you mean spend the money and go for a new netbook? I can't really justify that expense at the moment. Although that wind is pretty cheap.

I've been playing around today and have had no luck installing windows to the SD card on the mini PCIe card in the wwan slot.

I have managed to get linux puppy on that SD Card and it boots okay. Haven't got the wireless working yet and am a total newbie with linux so its all a bit new and haven't tried to see if everything else is working. But at least its a bit promising that I may be able to use the mini with out spending much more money on it.

My SSD died on my mini 9 too. Long story short - after a SECOND SSD failed, I am booting MEEGO off a USB stick. Doesn't recognize the wifi card but instead I am using a wifi usb. Hey, at least its not a total loss and I'm not wasting anymore time and money.

I am now running peppermint ice from the internally installed 16gb SD card in a MR04 SD to mini pci-e card in the WWAN Slot. Everything is running now including wifi. The 16GB is probably a bit to big and I can probably get a smaller one and use this one in a camera.

After a failed SSD driver update my dell mini stopped booting (and don't ask why, I was bored), giving

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-MOF: Exiting PXE ROM
Operating System not found

It's showing up in the bios as
Fixed HDD: STEC PATA 8GB -(PM)
HDD Size: 7682MB.
Further making matter worse I managed to mount it in Linux, and deleted the Win Xp on the SSD, installed the Linux to a usb drive, under disk utility, it show as health, capacy 7.7GB, volumes unknown, when I try to format it, it gives error formating, when i try to install linux to SSD it give input/output error. Anyone has any idea how to solve this issue.

Thanks

We've seen that symptom before. The SSD is dying and there's nothing you can do about it other than replace.

What "SSD driver update" are you referring to? SSDs don't have drivers.

I have this same issue, however, fortunately I was only using my mini for browsing, email, etc, so no important files lost. I am currently deciding what to do with it. It's a shame because it's been a great little machine for a couple years now. Thinking about replacement ssd and Ubuntu since I refuse to invest in a new copy of windows. Not worth the cost anyway. Any advice?

I assume you do not have the original CDs? If nDt, trying contacting Dell. Mine ssd died as well and could not find the CDs and I contacted Dell support (I believe I chatted with a sales rep) and they sent me all of the CDs in the mail for no charge (and my warrenty was way expired). Worth a shot.

Thanks. I think I will give that a shot. I will definitely need the drivers anyway. I did find the discs that came with it.
