I think so too. Maybe it is time to sell for parts

Shambles,

I'm in Flower Mound with a mini9, so if you need to swap out some parts to troubleshoot I'm not that far (I'm talking easily swappable parts - not motherboards or bios chips!)

Secondly - if you end up parting it out, I'd love to get an ssd larger than my current 8G.

Let me know,
Joe

I'll have to think about it. Thanks for the offer. I already swapped the power jack, but that didn't work. Anyone know what controls the A/C / battery power? I'd even try soldering in a new BIOS chip if I thought it would help.

Someone suggested a dead motherboard but how can it be a dead motherboard if the Mini 9 fires up from the battery, it's got to be the AC Power/Charging part of the board.

I'm thiniking the same way you are. Whatever detects and switches between the battery and power is bad. Could be the BIOS. I don't know that much about the architecture of the BIOS.

the AC Power/Charging part is ON the mobo and IF that is the problem unless you are capable of replacing just that piece providing you know which circuits to replace, then for all intents and purpose, yes its a mobo issue...

BTW I believe their are some pieces like the cable or something that are replaceable but NOT the circuits

From what i've seen in this forum, it is not a mobo issue(as it is working fine) but a charging circuit issue. I am a computer tech and i hear of these issues all the time, usually with a little brain matter(and a steady hand)(AND the right tools) they are easily repairable. it's probably something stupid like a fuse/resistor/cap or even the dc in plug itself(fatigue happens from (un)plugging and how much force is on it). If i were you, ide rip that baby apart and look around the power circut for any physically deformed parts(caps heads push out, if there smt they'll look almost the same as the resistors, but will be clearly labeled, resistors(smt) usually look a little cloudy when broke, fuses are hard to tell(so run a continuity test on your multimeter)). If you can't tell on sight, use a magnifying glass, if still no, time to put that multimeter to work. and doubtful, but if it's really bad, a logic probe is your friend.(test all the data chips, which i can almost guarantee isn't the issue)

It just hurts me to see good electronics go to the trash because of small issues. (i'm using a 32" lcd hd tv i salvaged from the local recycle depot as my monitor. when i brought it home it didn't fire up(as expected) so i cracked it open, hmm lookie there a bad cap, i saw it was in series so to be safe i replaced both with newer same rate caps. turned it on, pow. and iv'e been using it for about 8 months) So there you go, somebody threw out this tv, and probably bought a new one, so they paid 2 times. all i paid for it was the price of gas it took to pick it up, $0.60 in caps, and maybe(MAYBE) $0.03 in solder.

I look at it this way, it's already broke, will it kill you to break it more, or take a stab at fixing it.

its cool that you can do that but must can not, I got a sh*t load of stuff that probably could have been fixed if I could do that, but first I am a programmer not a tech, also if ya got the money, just buy a new one.....I have read here about some who found a 2gb daughter board for a lot less than the $160 I spent, I DONT care, its only money, I spent $500 on my 1010 (loaded to the max), I still DONT care, bottom line is if ya got the money spend it, otherwise when they throw the dirt on ya someone else will get it, and in my case it AINT GONNA be my ex-wife (lol).....its great that you have that skill and knowledge, tell ya what I will fix your software issues and you can fix my hardware issues..any chance you are around NY?

Haha, I'm thrifty, first i don't have the money. Food, rent, car, school are expensive things. But still, even if you do spend the money. Would it hurt to learn how to fix it anyway? I have a huge hardware trickle thing goin' on, my friends and family get random things i fixed (at little to no cost to myself) and are happy as clams. I also make small business teaching people how to do a variety of things, not just with computers/hardware.

Sorry i am on the other side of the continent in Canada. But if i'm ever out that far again, i'll fix a random thing for you, for free! or if your ever in BC, i'll show you around. if your a motorcyclist I've got a journey to bring you on!
