Default mini 910 problem (bios password + ssd) - 12-23-2010, 12:25 AM

Hi, i have a problem with a mini 9. The laptop was buy second-hand and has bios password. I was trying to reinstall windows on it, but the ssd was not recognized. (STEC PATA 8GB D5221-10) I got a netbook ssd upgrade utility from dell support page and i got the following error : Micro-code upgrade failed. Failed to down...load block 63 of microcode, Issuing the 92 command nsec=1 FEA=03 SECC=01 ... etc .. RunCore SSD Re-Init Tool v1.0 was tried too, but not successfully. The service tag is ######. Is there any bios password cracker, and others ssd utils ? Thank you.

you have 2 choices 1. Dell of course...and 2. there are people on ebay that sell you the password, there is a utility that does it...I dont think that they sell you the utility but you pay them and they send you a password...I think it is based off of the service tag number on the machine through some sort of an algorytm....

PS. Welcome to the forum....

actually I think that the info gained from the keygen would be considered paid for software and therefore would be against forum rules to share it...it would be like me buying ESET NOD32 and giving it to you.....but on the other hand I dont know if that keygen stuff is even licensed to begin with....either way I think that something... somewhere... its against the rules..maybe not.....

PS. hey Steve....if you read this....any input on this?

If the request is for some "master password", there isn't one. There is apparently an algorithm to compute a password from the Dell service tag. The folks selling you the service on eBay have acquired this somehow - almost certainly not from Dell.

If there is someone on this forum who wants to offer the service free, I don't have a problem with that, but it could be abused, say to break in to a PC you don't own. I'd ask that such transactions be kept off the forum. It's sort of like unlocking phones, though that specific task has been declared legal by the US Supreme Court (in the US, at least) - that doesn't really apply to BIOS passwords.

thanks Steve, just like I had said originally......although I have seen some on ebay that advertise for a master password..they say they dont need the service tag number.....that sounds like a scam to me.....like I said above on this thread...I thought the same as you that it is computed off the service tag number..thats why I removed the OP's tag number on their 1st post here.....thanks again for the reply...I knew something didnt sound right..just wanted a 2nd opinion.......Rich

I bought a password on ebay. You first have to enter the wrong password 3 times,Then a error comes up with a number. Its that number that is sent in and a unlock pass code is sent back.Cost me $1.50.Heres something I found on line.

You can control whether Recovery Console requests a password by making some changes in the registry. To do this, start Registry Editor and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsNTCurren tVersionSetupRecoveryConsole. Create a new Dword named SecurityLevel. Right-click the new Dword, select Modify and change the value to "1" to prevent the password request. Exit and restart.
