My Dell Mini 9's stock 8 GB SSD
has apparently failed after about 1.5 years. Without warning one day I got the "operating system not found" error message when booting and the BIOS couldn't see the SSD
I have bought a replacement SSD
and reinstalled XP, and now I'd like to recover some files from the bad SSD
It seems that I have two options:
1. Use an external USB enclosure for the bad SSD
. But everybody's out of stock. Anybody got one for sale or for loan?
2. Put the bad SSD
back in the Mini and boot using a USB drive. What's the easiest way? I've never used Linux, but I'm fairly tech savvy. Can you point me to a guide?
Once I've done one of the above and can see the bad SSD
(hopefully), what software should I use to try to recover the files? Freeware preferred, of course.
