Exclamation Mini 9 hard drive crashed - 09-14-2010, 06:18 PM

The hard drive crashed on my mini 9. Is it economically feasable to buy a new one, have windows operating system loaded and the software reinstalled? If so, how would I go about it. The computer is no longer in warranty (it crashed 1 mo. after the warranty ended.

Thank you, wellnessdoc

You should be able to get a new 16GB SSD for around $60. The 2nd gen SuperTalent brand SSD seems to be well regarded (FEM16GFDL for the 16GB model).

As for reinstalling Windows, you should be able to get "Restore" discs from Dell, if you don't have some already. I'm not sure if the discs can be transferred to a USB drive, so you'll probably also need a USB optical drive ($40 for a new, slim, DVD burner).
