Default ssd die? - 09-07-2010, 05:00 AM

this morning before i went to work i was cheacking my email like normal and i got the blue screen of death and it's the first time i saw it on my mini. i turned the mini off and when i tried to restart it got as far as to POST and said no os found. went in to the bios and it saw the drive but it said 0 bits. so am i looking at a dead ssd? any thoughts would be great. if dead what is my next option? i had a 16gb that worked fine for what i needed it for. i don't have alot of extra money at the moment due to buying a new house. i do see alot of ssd on the bay that i would buy but they look bigger in size. since there are bigger ones out there what do i need to look for.. thanks..

Yes, you are most likely looking at a dead SSD. This is the most common symptom.

If you buy a replacement, make sure that it says specifically that it is for the Dell Mini 9. You need a 50mm Mini-PCIe card with a PATA(IDE) interface. If it doesn't have all of those attributes, it won't work.

It depends - if you are using the Dell "Restore" CD, you don't need the key. If it is an install CD, then you do.
