Yesterday I bought a dell mini 9 netbook for $220 off of Craigslist area from someone who lives locally. I showed up, the laptop was working great, quick and wasnt damaged. I purchased the laptop and went home.
Today, i decide to install mac os x. I start the guide, and the first step is to change a bios setting. I go into the bios and I discover a password. its not a blank password, 000000000, 12345678, or anything that simple it so appears. I called the guy i bought it from, he pretty much told me that i dont need to mess with the bios, and no refunds, then kind of blows me off. (a bit shady?.....) I look online and find a utility to reset my cmos. I do that, reset the computer, and all of a sudden, it will no longer even boot! It shows up the dell logo, and then immediately after i get an all black screen with a little box in the middle asking for a password, that looks just like the password box for the bios menu! (which i can still not access)
In desperation, I disassembled the computer, took out the cmos battery for 10 minutes, and put it back together. it showed that the cmos data had been reset and that it reverted to default settings, press f1 to continue, and then it asked for my password again. So no dice there.
As a last attempt, I made a bootable linux flash drive and plug it in, with no change.
Can anyone help me please? I am a college student and I just wanted a netbook for class, and I wanted to pick one that I could put mac on. I do not have a source of income, and I cant really afford to be buying $220 paperweights!
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
