Default Blinking red/white light, battery issues - 08-14-2010, 12:44 PM

A long time ago my oem charger got fried, and I bought an aftermarket charger to replace it. Then, this summer, I started having issues where the laptop would not charge unless the charger was in a specific position. So, I taped the charger down when I needed to charge. Then, I had issues where it would charge for about 5 seconds, and the white light would remain steady, but red light would blink, and it wouldn't charge that way. The battery ran out, so I was left with my a90 as a brick. I then took the charge to the vendor that sold it to me, thinking that there was a problem with the charger. He tested it, and everything was fine, and showed that it worked. No matter how I hold the charger, it does the red-white blinking, and no charger. What can I do? I really need my a90 because its my only computer.
Thanks.

its either the ac plug on the mini, the mobo or the battery...most likely the ac plug on the mini, the red light indicates the battery is almost dead

I'm afraid you may have to get an official charger!

Oh, I just remembered this: I was changing the laptop lid from my old scratched up black one to a new red one. It was my first time disassembling the laptop fully, and I completed it mostly successfully, but the first time I fired it up after reconnecting everything but leaving off all the plastic covers like the palm rest etc, some message came up saying something along the lines of "Unrecognized battery, press F1 to continue."

I took little notice of the message and just rebooted, and then everything worked fine.
Hopefully this could be the cause of my problem instead of a costlier (to fix) battery/mobo problem...

there are guides for un-bricking on the forum.have you tried to search for them?

So I found no guides for the mini 9 on the forum. There was a guide for the 10, but it seemed pretty mini 10-specific, so I didn't want to try it out. I found a guide that was slimilar to the mini 10 guide, but for the mini, here.
My worry here is that these guides were written for people who bricked their minis through a bios upgrade failure, and my mini is bricked my some battery/power issue. Maybe, just maybe, my battery error is caused by some bios/battery software error. Hopefully.
Anyways, I figured it couldn't hurt to try it out, since it's already bricked, so I will give it a shot soon, probably this weekend. Will post results soon.

Sometimes just removing and reinserting the battery while on AC power will clear the "unrecognized battery" problem. I have seen it on rare occasions.

You may have a bad connection in the power jack - plausible because of the problems noted in the initial post. As far as I know, there is nothing special about the charger itself other than supplying the correct voltage with minimum current capability.
