And is that something a generic pc repair shop would be able to identify and fix? I don't think there are any specialized dell repair centers around me.

You can always ask, but I doubt most such shops are into diagnosing this level of fault. You can, I think, buy a replacement power jack from Dell and install it yourself. It connects to the mainboard with a cable. This is not the power button board. The part number is D169H.

Default It's the power jack - 09-18-2010, 05:17 PM

I too have just had this problem from buying a mini off ebay.

It came with a duff SSD and a very low charge on the battery then had the same symptoms of white flash and then battery red flash on power up and wouldn't run of the charger.

I purchased a new MB thinking it was that.. nope the same. So thought I would check the voltage on the charger. I stripped the mini down to the bare board and power switch with DC jack. And checked the voltage from the charger upwards.

it was the DC JACK plug. Which was strange as it was firm and not loose and looked in good shape. No bad solder on wires. I came to the conclusion that the centre pin in the plug had wore down?!

Being i bent the centre pin down slightly on the mini DC jack and it burst into life! So it wasn't making any contact with the charger.

One of the strangest things i've seen.

So I got the mini to boot again using this guide. Woohoo!
But, I didn't get the battery issues solved. I can run my mini with the battery out. Then I tried flashing my bios a million different ways, until i found this, which is from mydellmini. I flashed mini a05 by accident, which didn't fix the issues, and then I went to mini 9 A00, which also didn't fix the issues. However, I'm happy to have my mini unbricked, so I can export my data. I will try the pin-bending method soon, any recommended weapon of choice?
