Default Dell Mini 9 Battery Issues (charges but won't run off battery) - 07-17-2010, 03:37 PM

Pretty much as the title says

I charge the battery with the power supply and the battery says 100%, but when I unplug the battery it switchs off.

If I attempt to start the netbook without the power supply connected nothgin happens.

I have read a lot on the net about Airplane Mode, but I can't locate this anywhere in Windows XP, I don't have Ubunto installed (whatever that is)

Any help would be greatfull

Windows doesn't have "Airplane Mode". (Ubuntu is one of a zillion flavors of Linux.)

Can you bring up the Dell Battery Meter (Fn-3)? What does it report about the battery?

Thanks for the reply Holmes4

The Battery Meter shows the following:

Battery Status: Idle
Thew Green Bars are full (100%) - it was originally 0% then went straight to 100% - but I had it connected through the mains yesterday for a good couple of hours, so this probably charged it up

Batter Name: BLANK
Battery Identifier: 11DELL
Manufacturer: DELL
Battery Chemistry: Lion

Your Battery is operating normally

I hope this helps and any advice would be cool

I am also hoping to increase the RAM and the Hard Drive, I am OK with the RAM but the Hard Drive is something I am not sure on.

1) I presume from reading previous things on this site I need an SSD upgrade? How do i get everything from the old HD to the new one?

Thanks again

No idea then on the battery issue...

Some SSDs have a USB port that you can connect to the "old" system as a USB disk and make an image copy. Some are sold with, or you can buy separately, a USB enclosure that will take the MiniPCIe form factor card. Keep in mind that the Mini 9 takes a special kind of SSD. Any you buy MUST indicate that it is for the Dell Mini 9. MyDigitalDiscount.com is a good source.

Did you get any other answer on the battery? I have exactly the same thing on a mini 10 and may call Dell and pay.

I have the opposite problem with my 18 month old Mini 9 running XP.

Having left the netbook for 2 months unused, when powering backup I noticed that the battery wasn't taking any charge, but XP noticing the AC was connected as the screen brightness was altering.

Thinking the OE battery was finally failing, I've installed a replacement battery, which is giving the exact same symptoms.

It would seem if I boot the Mini with the battery disconnected, and AC connected, then attach the battery then it starts charging successfully.

This is all with running BIOS A05 and XP sp3;

These are the results after leaving the replacement battery on charge, whilst the mini was in suspend mode, then using the original OE battery;
