Thanks to all ove you who have reported in. I didn't know overheating was an issue. But, I suppose that is a possibility. Anyone else have any info on heat related SSD deaths?

@ nd4spdbh, nice to see familiar faces (err....usernames )

Mine just died after 16 months. Not impressed and it was a 64gb so it looks like about $200 to replace. Questionable value especially if it is just going to kill another one.

I have 3 mini 9's two running 64gig runcore SSD's and one with the standard 16gig SSD, all now over 12 months old and no SSD's to date have failed - the Mini used the most is my work mini running XP Pro - this is used 5 - 6 days per week for 8 - 12 hours each day and this SSD has not failed. The other two are not used as regularly - one has a motherboard issue now but the SSD is still alive.

I'll go with the overheating, just make sure there's plenty of ventilation under the base, not just stuck on your knee.

My refurbed mini 9 is over 18 months old. I have the 8GB stec drive and never had a problem with it. I ordered a 16GB runcore anyway.

My 8gb STEC failed...lost all my junk on it and Dell sent me a new one. After Christmas, I figured I wouldn't risk losing everything again and just bought a 32gb ProIV T-Style. Couldn't be happier with the speed and reliability.
