Problems with keyboard - 02-22-2010, 07:10 PM
I had motherboard, webcam and webcam cable replaced today in my Mini 9.
Everything looked ok, but only after some time, I discovered some of the keys on the keyboard do not work
1. right alt (very important for me)
2. both square brackets
4. both backslash/pipe keys
I downloaded a programme to verify key pressing and it doesn't register key pressing for any of these keys
Do you think it can be a problem of some incorrect installation of the keyboard by engineer, when replacing motherboard?
I doubt it's any kind of software problem, but maybe there is something I can do, without calling Dell engineer again?
I am really upset, as I wouldn't think I need to check all keys

Found a solution to my own problem.
Motherboard replacement is the problem or I should rather say - Dell engineer's laziness in reading papers attached to spare motherboard...
This thread says it all - so if you have some of the keys not working, read it:

In short - if some of your keys don't work after motherboard replacement, do this:
Setting keyboard matrix
1. Turn off your computer
2. If your computer is connected to the ac adapter, disconnect the ac adapter from the computer
3. Press and hold the following key combination for the desired keyboard matrix :
_ United States : <Fn><S>
_ United Kingdom : <Fn><K>
_ Japan : <Fn><J>
_ Korea : <Fn><E>
4. Connect the ac adapter to the computer then plug it into a wall outlet or surge protector
5. Release the key combination
Fn+K worked for me, for standard US keyboard layout.
