Glad to see I'm not the only one with this problem. Mine works with the near left port: SOMETIMES. Dell is still not aware of the problem, or admitting to it. Thinking about sending mine back for a refund; I have an old Iomega preditor cdrw drive that works with he mini. What type usb cable do I want to try and does that work with all ports? Anyone find a portable (no external power) drive that works well?
Found an old Iomega cable : now the dvd works in all three ports all the time . I got my mini and dvd on Jan. 16. Had a problem with the dvd same day. Called Dell and after much BS they sent a replacement dvd which had the same problems. By the posts on this forum Dell and I/O Magic have been aware of this problem for some time and still run the customer around in circles(I/O Magic had me download and install a new driver, to no avail). Why can't they just acknowledge the problem and send out cables that work?
Windows Media Player won't play dvd's with this dvive. I think the problem is with the region code because the Power DVD software included with the drive changed the region code before it would play a dvd. Minor problem but why should it be there at all? ( still dosn't work with Win. media player)
Any way if it wasn't for this forum I'd still be pulling my hair out: THANKS MUCH.
Update 2: Chatted live with I/O magic about the cable; the're in a fog. Called Dell Tec Support and after the BS cleared they said they would send me a new cable. I asked " what's the use if the cables don't work"; they said this was a diferent cable. Will if work, who knows? I'll update again when I try the new cable. Incidently, Iomega has a slim portable USB dvdrw drive: never had a problem with their stuff.
