Thanks for that bit of news Steve, I will try and listen to see if the wife is using the microwave when I am at the 1mbps speed - but since there isn't an updated driver......if that is not it.....I am still looking at the USB "N" stick - its only $20.00.........

WEP is like using a $0.25 lock out of a gumball/prize machine. Don't even try to fool yourself about it being a deterrent, hackers consider a WEP network to be an insult and will choose to use it even when unsecured public hotspots are available.
If you have a WEP secured network, change to WPA or buy a new router capable of WPA at your earliest opportunity.
Use WPA2 auto, or AES+TKIP, not just AES, for some reason the mini does not like AES on some routers (not all...) But if your router/mini combo play well with AES only then use that.
Also getting too close to the router can hinder your connection. I'm not going to explain the mechanics of it because honestly that's another paragraph or two that I don't want to write.
