Lightbulb 5530 GPS Fix/Workaround - 11-09-2009, 01:15 PM

Hey guys,

if the port does not show up, please try the following:
(Suggesting that everything is installed - driver version really doesnt matter)

Download THIS (...save target as...)
Open ur Device Manager
Find ur 5530 Broadband Modem under Network Adapters
Open the Properties and "Update the Driver" [MANUALLY!] with the Driver in the "Bus"-Folder in the downloaded Driver Package
Device will install...and a new "GPS" port will show up...
Install the driver from the "GPS"-Folder from the downloaded Package
...done

This is one more thing that has worked for me again and again if nothing else did......

Find ur 5530 Broadband Modem under Network Adapters
Tried as directed but Device Manager says that it did not find a better driver.
Uninstalled everything again and there are two D5530 modems:
- Dell Wireless 5530 HSPA Mobile Broadband Minicard Modem and
- Dell Wireless 5530 HSPA Mobile Broadband Minicard Modem 2
Their driver files are slightly different; respectively
- d553cm.sys; s553cmnt.sys; d553mdfl.sys; d553mdm.sys; modem.sys and
- d553cm.sys; s553cmnt.sys; d553mdfl2.sys; d553mdm2.sys; modem.sys.
However, no GPS entry appeared under Ports - only the already existing Mobile Broadband Minicard remains (besides Bluetooth).

Like I said,- MANUAL install ("let me choose the driver to install") then select the directory and then the driver - windows will tell ya that the driver is not digitally signed and so on... try it that way. Dont let Windows automatically search for the driver - it shall not find it, even when u point it to the directory. U will need to force Win to install the driver u select from the download.

Thank you very much for your continued help!
I indeed did a manual install:
- pointed to a 5530 entry on the Modems folder (there are two - Modem 2 is normally hidden);
- Selected Update;
- Selected "No, not this time";
- Selected "Install from a list...";
- Selected the folder with d553bus.sys.
Hardware Update Wizard then says that "The wizard could not find a better match for your hardware than the software you currently have installed".

Tried to update both Modem and Modem 2 by pointed both to d553bus and d533bus2 folders - the same happened with all four combinations.

p.s. The link (http://www.uni.jk4u.net/updown/Dell%...with%20GPS.rar) is not working anymore; however, I had already downloaded the RAR.

It's just 1.4 MB - send me a private message.

Update:
Neither CarolinaJones nor MrJ methods worked for me.
Surrended and fresh installed XP (oh no, not once again...) then manually installed each 5530 driver by pointing to the pertinent folder.
Now have a GPS port - no more Hyperterminal and AT commands - a small happiness.
