Talking Sleep works - Dell Mini 9 - OSX 10.6.1 - Bluetooth - 10-09-2009, 06:06 PM

I have been battling to get sleep working on my Mini 9 for the past 2 weeks. I have read countless threads and have tried many different workarounds. However, nothing worked.

In a recent 10 page thread, I found something that actually worked!!! I wanted to create a new post so that it was easier to find... and to see if it works for everyone.

So I found the solution. Hibernation was the problem. With the "Secure Virtual Memory" activated in System Settings/Security, hibernation file will be recreated after the reboot. Disabled this option, deactivated hibernation and deleted the hibernation file.

sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0
cd /var/vm
sudo rm sleepimage
Thanks chortya! This worked for me. (Mini 9, A05, OSX 10.6.1, Bluetooth disabled in BIOS, USB Legacy disabled in BIOS, USB Wake disabled in BIOS).

Does it work for you?

Hi guys,
I'm trying to get sleep to work, too. I read the quote above but did not understand b/c I'm a newbie. The quote is-

"Posted by chortya on 9/6/09

OK, so I unchecked Secure Virtual Memory in System Settings/Security. Now I'm stuck.
Do I need to uncheck something else to deactivate hibernation and deleted the hibernation file?

Also, do I type the following into Terminal and do I hit Enter after each line or after I enter it all?

sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0
cd /var/vm
sudo rm sleepimage

Please don't think I'm dense, just new Thks!!

I installed OSX 10.6.1. Everything is working perfect except sleep mode. I tried these instruction, but now after sleep when I press power button, all I get is black screen & I have to do restart.

Please ask this in the Mac OS section of the forum. It is a common problem (and one I have too - haven't tried the solution here yet.)

Travis -
I have not tried this solution... However...
1. Yes - type each line separately in Terminal and hit enter after each line.
2. Close the Terminal window and see if sleep works - Note: Sleep is different than Hibernate, but I don't remember which...
3. If it doesn't work, you may need to reboot ... and then it may work

Or maybe not... let us know your results.

Talking Thanks! - 11-10-2009, 09:47 PM

Thank You! It worked splendidly. I unchecked, rebooted, typed the Terminal commands and it works! Now when I shut the lid it goes to sleep and when I open it it prompts me to enter my password. Same goes when I manually select Sleep from the menu. Thanks!!!
