Default Issues with FlashFire SSD Accelerator - 09-04-2009, 09:24 AM

Hi,

I recently installed FlashFire in order to improve the speed of my SSD - it seems quicker, except for shutdown which takes ages now, however I am experiencing an issue:

Whenever I boot the Mini9, CheckDisk runs, it proceeds to check the disk, getting as far as stage 2 of 3, but then experiences an error and just boots into Windows. This happens EVERY time I boot the Mini9 and is becoming tiresome. I am also getting the occasional system tray notification that an XML file connected to the Dell system software is corrupted.

Has anyone else experienced any issues with FlashFire? Even if I use the FFCNTL 0 OFF command to stop it, the next startup still has a CheckDisk on startup.

Having customised my Mini9 and being generally happy with it I really don't want to factory restore and start again.

Thanks

Kevin

I would suggest that you uninstall flashfire, run chkdsk and let it fix any errors. Of course, back up everything. Once chkdsk has fixed everything, reinstall flashfire. Remember to be sure that everything is closed before turning off Windows, if it seems to hang, avoid pressing the power key to shut the system down. My experience has been that the chkdsk issue preceeds a major crash with flashfire. I have managed to correct the error by uninstalling as described above. Good luck....

Same has happened to me. It seems Flashfire / Flashpoint doesn't go with Chkdsk.

Beware trying an uninstall: last time I tried to uninstall it, I got a permanent BSOD (i.e. BSOD every time I tried to boot into windows, no way to fix it). Had to reformat the drive and install everything again.

Now I have it going into chkdsk every time again; this time, I can't be bothered to try and uninstall it (my reasoning is if I did, and had to reformat again, then it still might happen *again* on the new install). To me, the increased performance is worth having to hit a key to get past chkdsk every time I boot up.

You can edit the registry to skip chkdsk I believe, googling will probably reveal how to that, but I am definitely not going to try and do that. As I said, to me hitting a key is fine.

I have heard that some versions of Flashfire do not like chkdsk. I thought the problem was solved in the latest version.

Just disable flashfire, run chkdsk, and then re-enable it.

Hi,

I've done the 'ffcntl 0 off' to disable FlashFire, and then run chkdsk, however on reboot the chkdsk still fails some point into the 2nd phase of checking, and Windows continues to boot.
After hearing about the uninstall issues, don't think I will risk it... might just order a runcore drive, replace the existing SSD and reinstall onto the faster drive, leaving FlashFire out of the equation.

Thanks

Kevin

Flashfire might not be your problem. I would manually disable it by backing up and removing the required reg keys. If it still happens something else is jacked up.

Had the same problem. A real shame, because the slow Super Talent 16GB actually felt faster than my stock STEC with flashfire.

My solution, alas, was to remove the Super Talent and go back to my stock 8GB drive. Eventually I'll put in a fast 32GB drive. Sadly that means I blew $50.00 on an unusable Super Talent SSD. Oh well, you live and you learn.
