Default so I dropped my mini 9 on the ground... - 08-17-2009, 05:12 PM

twice in two days. The last time left some permanent damage... The screen now just has the back light and probably one line of pixel on top, the rest of the screen have one color, sometimes vertical lines, and the backlight is always on. I have to plug it into an ext monitor to use. Everything else works just fine (under OS X)

What are the chances that the connector are loose? Should I open the screen up and make sure everything is tightly fit? What is your guess?

Thanks guys.

Opening "the screen" is not likely to tell you much. You can remove the palmrest and check the seating of the display cable, but I doubt there's anything in the lid that you'll be able to see and fix, as there are no connectors there.

there is a connector on the lcd, as well as on the motherboard. The cable can be removed completely. The connections are typically taped though, and it would be very hard for it to come loose by dropping it. I suspect your lcd is damaged.

I actually removed the keyboard and the palm rest panel. Undo all the connectors, still didn't fix the problem. Could be the LCD is damaged. Bummer.

If your LCD is broke fortunately the replacement cost if only around $50 or $60. I just had to replace one on my wife's Aspire One.

I bought one from Ebay, not too pricey. I had to wait for it to come from Hong Kong though.

replacement isn't too hard, just take your time. A good pair of tweezers came in very handy.

If I had to order again, I would look for a seller named browngranite. US power seller with gre3at reviews.

Avoid Dell, when I called to inquire about buying one to install myself, it was more than a new mini.
