Default Dell Launcher problems after 2 GB upgrade - 11-20-2008, 01:56 AM

Using Ubuntu flavor of Mini 9. Installed new 2GB SODIMM from Crucial and now when I boot there is no wallpaper and the Dell launcher doesn't run. Switching to the Ubuntu desktop and everything works fine. BIOS shows the proper RAM amount. Replacing the 1GB SODIMM and the launcher and wall paper reappear.

Any thoughts. Fiddled around about and couldn't figure it out. Thanks.

I've seen mention that the Dell Mini 9 linux as shipped won't recognize more than 1GB of RAM. Not sure why this would be, but its been reported. I hadn't assumed that it wouldn't work at all with 2GB chips though, just that it wouldn't recognize the 2nd GB. Search around and see. I assume you can "just" recompile the kernel to fix it. Instructions are probably out there.

My Mini 9 Ubuntu works perfectly with one new 2 GB Crucial stick.
