| I'm looking to upgrade the RAM on my mini... Except I'm wondering if that will have any positive effect on performance, or if that is basically limited to the processor itself. I currently have the 1GB ram installed For example: I have photoshop installed on my mini, and it runs fine except it begins to lag if I do too much at once. Will installing the 2GB ram help that problem, or is that simply due to the limitations of the processor? I'm really not much of a computer junkie, so any info would help alot. |

The only point I might mention is that if you ever intend to use the RAM in the future for another PC it might be better to purchase 800MHz speed because the cost in most instances is almost identical (I typically pay the same up to as little as $2 more) compared to 667MHz but it would be more likely to work in a newer/faster PC in the future. |

| I Could be wrong, but i recall reading somewhere that the ubuntu versions that ships with the mini has got a reprogrammed kernal that is limited to 1GB of RAM. This could help in your search to sort it out, not sure if anyone has created a patch yet or anything, or maybe your going to have to perform a fresh install... Just to add a bit to this thread anyways, i'm awaiting my mini 9 currently, and have got a lot of bits and peices knocking about, including an 800 MHz (6400) Crucial Chip and a 533Mhz (4200) chip, The 4200 ram obviously has a lower latency speed, and by a general rule i heard somewhere a long time ago, it's always good to match the speed to your FSB, so i may investigate to see if there is any (no matter how small) difference there is. I'm guessing there will be an incredibly small increase in speed tests on he 4200 chip due to the lower latency, but this won't be noticable atall really apart from on speed test results. Will check it out anyways, just the be pedantic and to add to an already horribly over-informative thread to upgrading your ram from 1 to 2 gb.... |
