Just ordered my Mini 9 from the outlet this morning and already looking for upgrades.

Will this RAM work? I ordered 2 mini's so I was looking to buy a 2 pack anyway.

Thanks.

They'll arrive later this week, and I'll report back.
The Crucial DDR2-667 SO-DIMMs work great, if a little hot. I wish I had seen this post:

because I would have picked up the DDR2-800 model (for all of $7 more) instead:

But like I said, the DDR2-667 is working fine.

I purchased a crucial 2gb 533mhz module running at 1.8v. Are the temps drastically lower when using faster speeds, say 800mhz?

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if the following RAM will work on the mini 9:

If so, I'll pick one up tomorrow. Thanks in advance!

There is no *correct* size for 1GB of RAM -- it's really dependent on your usage. I've kept the current 200MB and so far I've been pleased with how well the mini runs; I'll probably experiment with removing the swap file altogether.

Let's face it, if you really need 2.5GB (the 1GB RAM + 1.5GB swapfile you mention above) to run all of your programs, you'd be far better off upgrading to 2GB RAM and using a 500MB swap file. Of course, that make the size of the hibernation file 2GB too, so it's going to eat up some SSD as well. But in general, it's always better to run programs in RAM rather than have parts of them sitting out in swap space.

Windows Internals guru Mark Russinovich wrote a very technical article on the subject of Virtual Memory, here's a quote from that article:
Quote:
Perhaps one of the most commonly asked questions related to virtual memory is, how big should I make the paging file? There’s no end of ridiculous advice out on the web and in the newsstand magazines that cover Windows, and even Microsoft has published misleading recommendations. Almost all the suggestions are based on multiplying RAM size by some factor, with common values being 1.2, 1.5 and 2. Now that you understand the role that the paging file plays in defining a system’s commit limit and how processes contribute to the commit charge, you’re well positioned to see how useless such formulas truly are.

I have some info on ram that works and does not work.

Patriot Memory DDR2 SODIMM 533 or 800 MHz will not work.
both stick only showed 1GB of memory and it was running at 333 MHz MP memory diags only showed 1GB as well[*]

Corsair Value Select DDR2 SODIMM 776/800 MHz works fine
can see full memory and tested in MP memory diags fine.[*]

I was able to get the corsair 667 for $35 at a B&M and has a $10 MIR so for 25 at a B&M not bad.

I also found that Patriot makes a 32 and 64GB PCIe-SSD card was 199 at the same B&M but did not want to risk it as Patriot seems to have a lot of issues with dells in general.

Please forgive me if this question has been answered already... I just didn't want to go through 18 pages of posts...

According to the first post...

Quote:
Does the Mini support RAM speeds greater than 533 MHz? - No.
So... what's the point of getting faster RAM?

Those of you who got faster one, do you even recognize the difference?
