Default Frequently Asked Questions and other good Mini9 Advice - 01-27-2009, 05:49 PM

FAQ:

Buy from the Outlet. The prices start as low as $199.00 and go up. This is a $100 savings from new and comes with the same warranty options and return period. Factor in a 20% off coupon that pop-up rather frequently and you can easily get a Dell Mini 9 for less than $200 with tax...

nvm. i just looked at my mini..the dell circle's flush with the lid so placing the skin over it should cover it pretty completely. i was just afraid it might be like my 1330 where the dell's embossed. but hey dragon, how's the fit of the skin? does it actually go all the way over the beveled/round edges? how does it look at the corners? it doesnt get all bunched up and ugly and stuff does it?

Still looking for files I can delete to add space.
In the Add/Remove Programs page I see several Java updates. Is it necessary to keep these?

if you're primarily just planning to use your mini to surf, you can probably go ahead and dump windows DVD maker and probably all other DVD utils that may be lingering around. i think dvd maker's templates take up a good chunk of space. if you wanna but windows wont let you, you'll need to change the ownership and then the permissions.

Excellent post, perhaps the OP would like to add this external link as well.

It has been my favorite reading to tweak and de-mystify Windows XP optimizations.

I'm curious about that as well...
I have a decalgirl on my mini9. It covers the DELL logo and it is smooth, even from various angles.

I ordered my decal as a custom cut based on published dimensions. This was before decalgirl was offering Dell Mini9 decals, so my experience will be different, but I can tell you that the decal covers the curve, but stops at the edge of the curve, leaving a nice looking border of white (or whatever color) exposed. The corners lie down well, no peeling, just a couple of tiny wrinkles that I think look fine. I trimmed a tiny piece of the front corners to better follow the curve.

I am considering ordering another when decalgirl gets more designs available, because thats the only way you get the palmrest cover. I've had the decal on for several months now- looks good as new- survived a trip to Dell Depot. Doesn't show fingerprints and wipes clean with soft damp cloth (I use a microfiber cloth used for lcd screen wipe)

here's a pic: you can see that it sits smooth over the logo and you can also see how far the decalgirl skin comes down on the sides: (the blue gob is the reflection from my tv)
