| That's not normal. It sounds as if you don't have the JMicron driver installed. Here's what I see. ![]()

| Hey, I've tried installing and reinstalling all versions of the JMicron driver - install seems to go fine but I am still having the issues I outlined in my threads here and here. When I plug in my SD card I get the same disk drive device as you. But those unknown devices appear at boot, then go away after a while (when the code 12 error comes up), then come back if I plug an SD card in! Don't suppose you can offer me any help? The only other user that has experienced this is jpblock82, and the only way he could solve it was by formatting to Windows 7  Cheers, Suman P.S. How big is your Vista install? I have a spare OEM copy of Vista Business x32, so I could always try to vLite that and put it on my mini...

| I am running Windows 7 as well, but I did not have this problem with XP.

| This is what it looks like in XP: [attachment=0:3ksnjnbp]jmicron.JPG[/attachment:3ksnjnbp] Also, you can get the latest version of the driver here. |

| Hey, Same issue with the new drivers ![]() But it seems to be working fine (on the surface!): Here is a list of everything I stripped from XP with nLite... does anything there look like the culprit? Thanks, Suman

| Yet another example of why I recommend against using Nlite. You and many others spend a lot of time chasing problems caused by Nlite. Redo your install with a full XP and see if it works.

| Hey, I'm relatively sure this is a hardware problem now - nothing do with nLite! Same issues were occurring in Ubuntu as well but I never put 2 and 2 together (and I'm a Linux noob so no way of proving the relation!). Hard locks always happening after about one hour... maybe the card reader chipset overheating or something? Who knows! Also tried an old Memory Stick I had lying around (128MB, lol) and the same thing happens, so I'm fairly sure it's not the fault of the SD card itself. Gonna get in touch with Dell today and sort out an RMA! Cheers, Suman

| According to a post in a link you provided, you only have one SD card. Which one is it? I would certainly try another card before sending it back. I also suggest what holmes4 said----try a clean copy instead of nlite one. Judging from all the other stuff going on (like lock ups), your registry could be corrupted. I would try a clean install, make sure it's stable and go from there.

| Hey, As I said in the post above, I've tried with a 128MB Memory Stick and the same thing happens (both the MS and SDHC cards cause no problems in my other laptop). Also, the problem was occurring under Ubuntu as well. I've been talking to a JMicron support guy and he's convinced it's hardware as well. Cheers, Suman

| If you do a search here you will see there are issues with memory sticks. Like damaging the reader. Also Ubuntu not seeing it easily. Edit: Double check your BIOS and make sure Cardslot is enabled. Good luck.
