I know I have at times been quite confused as to which drivers were for what hardware, and there has especially been some confusion over the different drivers for the Battery Meter/Wireless Select Switch thing. I therefore decided to compile a list of the various drivers together with their filename. All links are to Dell's ftp site, for direct file download. BTW, these are listed as Windows XP drivers on their site to download drivers. Ubuntu drivers are built-in to the kernel (so, you don't need these).

Recommended order to install these drivers

Finally, you can sign up on Dell's website to be notified by email whenever a new driver is released (including new BIOS releases). You will need to be signed in to "Create a New Subscription." The rest should be pretty straightforward.

I mistakenly installed the drivers in the wrong order, but I haven't noticed any issues yet. Would yall recommend I go back and redo this process to make sure they are in the right order? If I don't, and later there are issues, will I have to reinstall XP again, or just the drivers?

its really quite handy except the back button area is a bit large and sometime i go back by mistake oops!

You should be fine. I've rebuilt dozens of Dell laptops, desktops, and servers and I've never had an issue with driver install order. The only drivers I try to install first is the board chipset drivers.

This is the generic Synaptics driver which does not support gestures, the OP was talking about Dell specific drivers for some of the larger Dell laptops.

I guess these are available on the Dell site, but some guidance on which laptop to try would be welcome.

Battery meter driver (of all things) took care of it.

post #1, and from my Mini 9 (1Gb, 8 GB SSD) - just a thanks for the list of drivers! Will have to check out the touchpad driver for sure! 3 days now and counting...love it so far!
