I know I have at times been quite confused as to which drivers were for what hardware, and there has especially been some confusion over the different drivers for the Battery Meter/Wireless Select Switch thing. I therefore decided to compile a list of the various drivers together with their filename. All links are to Dell's ftp site, for direct file download. BTW, these are listed as Windows XP drivers on their site to download drivers. Ubuntu drivers are built-in to the kernel (so, you don't need these).

Recommended order to install these drivers

Finally, you can sign up on Dell's website to be notified by email whenever a new driver is released (including new BIOS releases). You will need to be signed in to "Create a New Subscription." The rest should be pretty straightforward.

It's not on Dell's page for the Mini, and the Mini isn't specifically listed in the picture you attached. Any idea if that matters? Have you installed it successfully on a Mini?

yeah, installs no problem on mini 9 running win 7.

I reinstalled my dell mini 9 with Windows XP and updated all these drivers. Unfortunately the audio does not seem to work properly. It gets constantly frozen, and it seems to have less priority than other tasks in the OS. Every time that I play a music file or a video it can malfunction if I open a simple task like open a tab in an Internet Explorer.

Any help to solve this issue is appreciated.

When I try to install the package, it give me an error saying that it could not authenticate the modem.

Hi - I'm looking at the Dell site and the only download link for the COMPAL Embedded System Control (link) says it's compatible for Vostro Notebook 1200 - not Mini 9. Is it still ok to reinstall that version or should I get it from somewhere else?

Problem I have - I had a Java applet running when I closed my notebook.
When I re-opened and Windows restored, the screen was displaying a corrupt version of the applet. This had happened before and restarting Windows resolved it. But this time I am getting a blue screen each time I restart (STOP: 0x0000006F (0xC000003A, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) unless I choose Safe Mode.

Only problem I can see is in the Device Manager - This COMPAL device has a yellow Exclamation against it, so I'm looking to reinstall that driver. Restoring to a previously good config / system restore didn't help. Thnx.

Various anecdotal reports abound regarding this "device" which seems to remain unrecognized rather commonly. And though I don't know exactly what it is, I have to wonder if it's really the cause of your BSODs.

A couple questions:

• Did you have the yellow exclamation before you started having the stop errors?
• Have you run scandisk on your drive?
• Have you tested your RAM with memtest?

Not sure - I had no reason to look at the device manager when everything was working

I tried but it said that the volume was in use so couldn't run, but would do so on next startup (but it didn't)

I don't know how to do this

It seems to be working now - I'm not exactly sure of the sequence, but multiple boots into safe mode and disabling/reenabling COMPEL driver seemed to do the trick. The driver is not showing yellow anymore.
