Default SDHC Write Speed Problem - 06-28-2009, 04:56 PM

I have a Kingston 4 GB Class 4 SDHC. I copied 200 MB of files to and from the SDHC. My Read speed from the SDHC was about 2 MB/sec. My Write speed to the SDHC was only 0.125 MB/sec. I made these tests copying from/to my SSD and from/to an external USB HDD. My SDHC is formatted FAT32 with a 4K cluster size.

Is this normal? If not, does anyone have idea what my write speed problem is?

How big are the files? I'm guessing it's a bunch of tiny files. Try a few big files and see how it does.

Anyways, to improve write speeds, make sure that write caching is enabled on the card reader.

As for my own speeds, I just copied 3 files (about 4MB each) to my class 6 Kingston at over 5 MBps. Large files write around 10MBps and read at 20MBps.
