Default New Ubuntu A90 - many updates later, nm-applet half-broken - 06-16-2009, 12:38 AM

Hi, all. I've been enjoying the heck out of my new A90, and my first experience with Ubuntu. So far I've only had one issue.

I've removed a few of the programs that came with the machine and added others, including Pyroom for which I had to add repositories. Yesterday after I'd been using the machine for about a week it decided to download over 400 updates (335Megs or so). Once it was done, the wifi notifier (which I now know is the NetworkManager Applet) no longer worked correctly.

It allows me to select networks and shows activity while it's connecting, but once it's connected it shows no signal and "...connection to 'none'". I've tried removing and reinstalling to no effect. Can anyone suggest another solution? I'd really like to keep my machine running without needless bugs.

Same here, I'm using Vostro A90 and the signal strength for my nm-applet (NetworkManager) is not animated too.

Googled for all possible keywords and still couldn't find the answers I'm looking for... yet.

Definitely appreciate if someone manage to find a fix for this.

Well, at least I'm not alone.

EDIT: Aaand it has spontaneously repaired itself. What about you, jonkoay?

Nope. Last check, it's still the same.

Eureka! (maybe)

I've got a WPA2 Personal network at home, which is most of where I've been using the A90. I'm sitting in a restaurant right now and nm-applet is working a-ok. I know I was having a crash problem before I switched the network from TKIP to AES. I think NetworkManager just doesn't like WPA2.

What kind of wifi encryption are you using?
