Default Dell with UBUNTU lost navigation after updates - 06-05-2009, 10:57 PM

Dell Mini 9 running Ubuntu 8.04 original disc.

Got the message that there are updates available.

Followed screen instructions. Updates loaded.

Restarted Mini, but only thing there is background with the Dell Document folder.

No navigation - nothing.

Anybody knows what gives? Do I have to reload from Restore? No data lost as it was a new unit. But I will have to borrow a DVD player.

Hi, same thing happened to me. Something like 400 updates ran, packed out the hard drive to 100%, lost navigation on browser, can't view files or folders, get empty desktop screen etc. Copied backup cd files to a usb pen, hit '0' on bootup & select USB drive but computer fails to read it or something.

Going crazy! You got this solved yet? Dell support is sooo bad for this.

As a workaround to missing taskbars, try hitting Alt+F2 to get a run dialog, and then run "gnome-panel".
