Default Easiest way to install OS X on Dell Mini 9? - 05-27-2009, 08:49 AM

This is my first post.

I have just ordered a refurbed Dell Mini 9 from the UK Outlet Store for £226!
That is with a 32gb SSD, 1gb RAM.

I think this is good price?

I am a massive Mac fan and wish to install OS X as soon as it arrives. What is the easiest way? I realise I need to purchase a large USB stick (8GB+). I am happy to do this but don't want to purchase an external DVD drive, but will if I have to.

Many thanks,

All you need is your retail OS X disc and a usb stick (8GB is enough, that's how I did mine).

Check the Mac OS X forum, you'll find all the answers there.

Good luck.

I went with installing OS X directly on to a Runcore drive. Once the install was up and clean, I used Carbon Copy Cloner to make a byte for byte copy of the Runcore to an external HD I have.

Now if I ever have a problem with the system, I can re-enable legacy USB, boot from that external drive and use CCC to restore the SSD to that state.

This method only works if you have a Runcore drive though.

--15" MBP - 500GB 7200RPM Seagate -- 4GB Ram -- OSX 10.5.7
--Black Mini 9 - 64GB Runcore -- 2GB Kingston HyperX RAM -- OS X 10.5.7

I did the Runcore drive method also, cause it was so darn easy- hook the drive up to your mac via USB, install leopard on it like any other hard drive (select that drive when the dvd installer boots), and then install the ssd drive into your mini9. run dell efi. too easy.

only works for runcore ssds though cause they have the usb connector
