Default Is the Mini 9 being discontinued? - 05-18-2009, 08:10 PM

I was on the forum and they were talking about how the Mini 10v seems to be replacing the soon to be discontinued Mini 9. Is this true? I haven't heard that yet.

I think it'd be strange to discontinue the Mini 9 when they just introduced the Vostro A90, which is a rebadged Mini 9.

They might move to selling the Mini 9 exclusively under the Vostro labeling (known as their budget line) and selling the 10, 10v, and 12 under their current labels for a slightly higher price.

The size of the mini 9 is just awesome. I can see them discontinuing the current design and opting for a larger keyboard and screen that maximizes the real estate of mini 9's dimensions. Still, having a small portable netbook is too good to not sell!

For now, the 9 is still current. My personal belief is that the 10v is meant to replace the 9, but I could be mistaken. Most of the competition has given up on 8.9" screens - 10.1" is the new norm. But given the apparent strong sales of the 9, Dell would probably keep it going for a while unless they had a direct replacement. I note that the 10v is, in design, very much like the 9, unlike the 10 (no v).

I, too suspect that the 9" form factor is destined to go the way of the dodo. Which is sad because I'm a huge fan. I don't think I'd own a 10" notebook as well as a 12" notebook... they're just too close in size. But a 9" notebook is a nice complement to a 12" notebook. You definitely use them for different things.
