Default Write Speed - DM9 - 05-17-2009, 11:02 AM

I see this link and the second last user comment form bottom of page states that "...this is a terrible machine and only writes at 1.7mb/sec instead of 25...."

SCOOP! Dell’s Inspiron Mini 9 netbook: first Australian review

Is this true and if so, is this of concern for you DM9 users?

The write speed may be slow, but I doubt it's that slow. Could be the person had something going on with their system. Or they are a moron, or something. It could simply be slow if they're automatically compressing everything in XP.

I personally, whether it be with my stock STEC 8 GB drives or my current 32 GB SuperTalent, have never had any issues with lower than advertised write performance that wasn't my fault to begin with.

See my reply in one of your other posts. I also suggest that you try out the forum search feature - most if not all of your questions could be answered that way.

I didn't read the article, but it I doubt sequential writes are that bad. He may have been referring to small random writes, which many SSDs write slow. If he is talking about 4k random reads than that number isn't that bad.

Random writes only come into play if they are sl slow that you see shutters. Luckily the DM9 doesn't seem to suffer this problem as long as you remove all the Dell crap that on there when you buy it.

If you want to increase random IO try zFlashpoint ssd sccelerator. It buffers a small amount of writes in RAM to increase performance significantly. Some users see a 10x performance increase in small random writes with it.

Try this thread. It gives a lot of info on read/write speeds.

See my post at
for speed comparisons with some of the popular methods of increasing the write speed.

Thanks !
