Would you (or anyone else) mind elaborating on why you believe my DM9 may be a refurb or used unit?
This link below shows a statement from another DM9 user that 4 - 6Gb is lost when you first receive the m/c from the dealer (after XP install) and then 10GB remains - just like the data I have above.

I'm basing my comments on my own Mini 9 with 16GB SSD and XP, which when it came new from Dell, had a compressed disk and about 8GB free. I find it hard to believe that a factory image XP would be only around 4GB.
You can see if the disk is compressed by right clicking on C: in My Computer and selecting Properties. There will be a checkbox for "Compress this drive to save disk space". If it is checked, it's compressed.
If you want to uncompress, check the box, click OK, and go away for a few hours. This will generally use an additional 2GB or so.
