To me, I always have to hold it at, u know, different angles, or get sun at my back or something: I knew this going in, so I wasn't shocked by it or anything...I don't think there is a perfect solution to this, not in sunny southern california, but still, it works, and I can see it, but it does seem to look a whole lot better inside, and I guess I'd rather have that then the reverse....

I have had some success with the brightness all the way up. I would say the most important aspect is setting the angle of the screen to avoid reflections.

I have also turned on the High Contrast (everything is black, white, or solid colors) theme when it was really really bad.

I use it a lot outside, and in bright sunshine the screen does become washed out.

My solution was this:

iCap - sun shade and protection for notebooks. Blocks sun and glare on the display and protects laptops against heat, rain, etc.

I went for the smaller icap 12+. It does the job, and folds into a little cover which is easy to carry around. Works a treat, even if a little expensive for what it is. Of course you could just carry around a cardboard box!
