Check this thread out... It helped me...
I am running Win 7 now, but had XP running on my Mini and it was taking up less than 4GB. You can actually get it much smaller...

If you have a copy of Windows XP around (or even the one that they give you) then use nLite to strip out the programs/components that you dont need. I created a post the other night about how to do this Fresh slim Windows XP install on the Dell Mini 9 speeds things up Â« Tim Pinet’s Blog and I am only using 2.5GB of my 8GB drive after installing all updates/drivers/OpenOffice/Eclipse.
