Default So I Load W7 RC - What Then? - 04-30-2009, 05:13 PM

I am expecting my new Vostro A90 w/16GB SSD & Ubuntu in a few weeks. While I am waiting I am trying to make a decision what OS to load as I only ordered Ubuntu to save $100. I originally was just going to load XP Pro but I am now seriously considering going straight to W7 RC.

W7 RC is not a retail purchase so I assume it has to expire eventually:
-What happens then? And how long is it good for?
-Will the W7 RC expiration be after the retail version is available?
-Will I need to do a clean install when the retail version becaomes available or will it be just a matter of activating the serial number that will come with the reatail package?
-I assume the RC will be the full version. What happens if I eventually purchase say the "home" retail version? Will this be compatible with the RC or will that drive a clean install?
-Can I assume most software compatible with XP Pro will also be likely to be compatible with W7?

In other words, I purchased my new machine for utility needs and I do not want to be forced to do a second clean install anytime in the near future. However, W7 is going to replace XP Pro whether I like it or not, so I might as well get accustomed to it now, if it does not mean an excessive amount of time maintaing the new Vostro.
