For my operating system, I set up OSX. It's *meant* to run on this hardware.

For misc "windows stuff" that you sometimes just need Windows for-- I installed VirtualBox, and loaded up XP Pro as a guest. It's not super speedy, but it's certainly fast enough to be useable. If you go into fullscreen mode, it's like the mini is running nothing but XP. Bonus-- don't have to shut down and reboot, and also don't have to do the complicated triple-boot setup....

I think you have the right idea, but play with it on your Mini 9 as well. The only problem I can think of is it won't run TurboTax & I have another computer that will - problem solved.

Your OP said that you have a restore disk for Win XP. I might be wrong, but I don't think you can use it to install on your Mini 9. I would not buy a copy of XP or OSX at this point. I you are a college student & decide to buy a new OS, check your bookstore as there are some good discounts that the rest of of can't get.

This is my first post from my new dell mini. It shipped amazingly fast. As for updating the ssd, I previously mentioned that I had planned to do that as well as update the ram to 2gig. So what are everyone's thoughts on these Buffalo ssds that I have been seeing? I plan on picking up a copy of osx soon, so I need more room! Now to delete the extra software that I don't need on XP....
